Poker is a popular sport, and besides just being played on TV and casinos, it can also be found at bars and at home games across the nation.

You may think the game is primarily about luck, but there is a ton of poker strategy to be learned in poker books.

    Doyle Brunson – The Greatest

You might think you are a genius, until you take a look at a book or two, and see things you have not even begun to think about. Where should you start if you want to get better at poker … poker books.

Try using one of the classic poker books“Super System”, by Doyle Brunson. This book was first published in the late 70s, but is still relevant today.

It explains the complex situations that can come up in hold em, and why betting and aggression are superior to meek and docile play. The book’s largest chapter is devoted to Texas Hold Em, but if you want to learn about 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Draw, or Kansas City Lowball, poker strategy is there for all those games, too.

The bulk of that book is devoted to cash games, where a player can rebuy anytime they lose chips. In a tournament, or freeze-out, a player is done when all their chips are gone. Some books are devoted primarily to tournament play.

    Dan “The Man” Harrington

One of the best poker books in this regard is “Harrington on Hold Em”. “Action” Dan Harrington goes over the hands you should play, how you should adjust your style according the image your opponent represents, and how to calculate odds to maximize your chances to win.
